Taste  & See Cakery was started by owner and decorator Lakisha Corpening in 2006 as a home -based business After taking several local cake decorating courses in Richmond, Virginia. The company began with cakes made solely for friends and family, through word of mouth  demand grew exponentially.  Lakisha decided to Hone her skills and expand her business to the Newport News area.

Lakisha's cakes come in many specialty flavors including Amaretto and Kahlua  in the most exquisite designs that are so realistic they are often mistaken for the real thing. She wowed guest at a birthday party with a standing 3D cake of Yoda from the Star Wars series and is number one in creating near exact replica high fashion designer purses and shoes, made entirely of edible material.

Lakisha takes time with each cake design and adds all the details to the make the cake come to life. No shortcuts here, her cakes are full of detail and precision. Cut the cake and your taste buds are in for a moist, delicious treat. With the Opening of the first retail store located at 13771 unit #39 Warwick BLVD in May 2011 Lakisha has expanded her repertoire to include yummy gooey cookies, cupcakes and brownies.

“Taste & See Cakery was an idea that came about after finally discovering my personal gifts and talents. As a young child I was intrigued by what one could create out of sugar. A sense of awe took over and there sprung a curiosity of my own capabilities in this art. Upon realizing that cake decorating was something I really wanted to pursue I enrolled in several courses, honed my skill and emerged myself in the world of dessert baking and decorating. "
